Mother and child killed in single car accident; Others in serious and critical condition


WASHINGTON COUNTY – A mother and her five children were involved in a single car accident this weekend which took the life of the parent and one of the children.  The crash happened at aproximately10:30 p.m. on  November 27 at the intersection of Lucas Lake Road and Village Drive.

Florida Department of Highway Patrol said  the driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old female from Chipley, was traveling east on Lucas Lake Road when she failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway and traveled off the paved portion of the roadway and onto the shoulder. FDOH said the SUV began to overturn and overturned into a tree. The SUV came to rest on its left side facing north. The mother and an 8-year-old child died from the accident. Four other children in the car with ages ranging from 6 to 13 were taken to local hospitals with serious to critical level injuries. 

FDOH said it is unknown if all the passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
