Caryville woman critically injured in crash

An early morning crash left a Caryville woman in critical condition on Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol reports the incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the area of County Road 280 and Pleasant Hill Road in Vernon.

According to the report, the 55-year-old woman was traveling east on County Road 280 near Pleasant Hill Road when the sedan she was driving left the roadway on the south shoulder and began to rotate and overturn onto the passenger side. The car continued to overturn, partially ejecting the driver before making impact with a tree at the rear of the passenger side. The vehicle then came to a final rest on its roof facing south.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was flown to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition. FHP has not identified the crash victim.
