Jackson County man behind bars for warrants and meth


 

A Jackson County man is in custody after a traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamines and outstanding Bay County warrants.

Chipley Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a gold SUV on Feb. 26 for an equipment violation. The driver was identified by his Florida identification card as Dustin Layton Bassett, 32, of Alford.

CPD ran a check of the identification and found Bassett’s license was suspended and an outstanding warrant out of Bay County.

According to CPD, while the officer spoke with Bassett, an odor of marijuana was detected, and a search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search the officer found a cigarette pack containing marijuana and a small baggy containing a white crystal substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Bassett was arrested on the Bay County warrant and is also charged with possession of methamphetamine.
