Spring break traffic stops lead to drug arrests in Washington County

On March 25, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies and their K-9’s have performed several traffic stops resulting in two unrelated felony arrests.

Alexis Anastazia Chancey, 34, of Birmingham, Alabama, was arrested for driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.

Cammeron J Mitchell, 31, of Opelika, Alabama, was arrested for two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony.

Both have been transported to the Washington County Jail and booked on their charges.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office increased patrols Friday due to a significant increase in traffic expected due to Spring Break.

“With a focus on areas between Vernon and Ebro, I believe the heightened presence of law enforcement, by the additional deputies being on patrol, give a sense of peace for local citizens and increase the overall safety awareness of motorists traveling on State Road 79,” says Sheriff Crews. We also would like to add how extremely proud we are of our K-9 teams!!
