Chipley High School Theatre Department to present “The Sound of Music”


The Sound of Music will take the stage at Chipley High School at 7 p.m. nightly on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, April 26, 28, 29. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door each night of the performance. 

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical, according to a press release from the CHS Theatre Department. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Directed by Kevin Russell and musical direction by Danny Love, the cast includes:Sydney Smith as Maria Rainer, Jenny Davenport as The Mother Abbess, Abigail Everson as Sister Berthe, Ne’veah Williams as Sister Margaretta, Lena Tice as Sister Sophia, Nathanael Banta as Captain Georg von Trapp, James Cook as Franz, Sarah Bush as Frau Schmidt, Shelby Brock as Liesl, Ethan Wilson as Freidrich, De’shey McCovery as Louisa, Isaac Jimenez as Kurt, Marlaina Register as Brigitta, Alexis Hanger as Marta, Kinley Wilkes as Gretl, Jamison Trolard as Rolf Gruber, Braden Banta as Elsa Schraeder, Kaitlin Thompson as Ursula, Landen Pettis as Max Detweiler, Jonathan Patton as Herr Zeller, Grayson Carter Baron Elberfeld, Kara Sugars as A New Postulant, and La’Darius Sirmons as Admiral von Schreiber. Nuns are Cadence Bastedo, Serayah O’Neil, Lacey Grantham, Chloe Wilson, Allora Jones, Ali Maddox, Coren Murray, Kadie Bruner, Lesa Burdeshaw, Lucinda Castells, Keona Crawford, Tracey Dudley Gilbert, Kristi Broom and Sandra Solger. Jennah Armstrong will serve as production stage manager.
