Dual agency pursuit ends in arrest
A Bonifay man is behind bars after leading Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Sheriff’s Office in a pursuit on May 2.
An HCSO deputy was dispatched to a pursuit in progress that was initiated by WCSO. HCSO joined in the pursuit on Byrd Avenue in Bonifay after the suspects vehicle exited Interstate 10. The suspect traveled down Weeks Street to Highway 90 then tuned onto Hubbard Street where the pursuit ultimately ended with the suspect hitting a residential mailbox on East Iowa Avenue.
Upon the suspects vehicle coming to a stop the driver, identified as Julian E. Sanders, of Bonifay, fled on foot. According to HCSO, while Sanders was running, he threw a pistol and a baggie of methamphetamine into a nearby wood line which was later recovered.
Sanders was found to not have a valid driver’s license and is charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest without violence, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
