Inaugural ‘Flower Farm Tour’ blooms on May 28

Several local farms are collaborating to present the first annual Flower Farm Tour in an effort to encourage people to shop locally for their floral needs.

Hosted by Black Barn Blossoms in Vernon, the free tour will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 28 and will feature four farms located in Washington, Holmes, and Bay Counties.

The tour will feature No Place Like Holmes Farms, Southern Grace Lavender Farm, Fussell’s Day Lilly Farm and Black Barn Blossoms.

Attendees can begin at any of the locations where they will receive a map for the easiest route to the other sites. Visitors can spend as much time at each farm as desired but are encouraged to visit each location as each have something different to offer.

No Place Like Holmes Farm, located at 2387 Joe White Road in Bonifay, will have kids’ activities, a you-pick flower field and other activities. Black Barn Blossoms is located at 3535 Dickinson Lane in Vernon and will offer a variety of food trucks, guided farm tours and a cut flower bar.  At Fussell’s Day Lilly Farm located at 1565 Gainer Road in Chipley, day lilies can be purchased, and visitors can enjoy the view from the garden seating area. Southern Grace Lavender Farm is located at 1406 KOS Ranch Road in Southport and features a gift shop, dog park and picnic areas.

Black Barn Blossoms Owner Gina Hamilton says many locals don’t realize there are local flower farms.

“Most of my business is in Panama City and Freeport because locals don’t know I am here,” she said. “It is the same with the other farms, too. We want people to know we are here and that they have the option to support local small businesses. What makes us special is that we grow what is in season without harsh chemicals. When the seasons change, so does our selection of flowers.”

The tour is self-guided and free for those who wish to attend. For more information, visit www.blackbarnblossoms.com.
