Bus driver faces three more sex-related charges

The Washington County School Board is expected to rescind a recommendation made months ago to renew the contract of bus driver John Robert White after three additional lewd and lascivious charges were filed against him.

White, 53, was arrested Friday, June 10 on two counts three counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim under the age of 12 and one count of lewd and lascivious behavior on a victim age 12-16.

The arrest comes just days after White was arrested for two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim under the age of 12 and one count of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim age 12 to 16.

Washington County School Superintendent Joe Taylor says White’s rehire recommendation will be rescinded when the school board meets Monday, June 13

“We recommended Mr. White for rehire two months ago, which would be effective July 1,” said Taylor. “The board is expected to rescind that recommendation at our next meeting, pending the outcome of the case.”

White was a substitute bus driver in the early ‘90s and from 2013 to 2017 but was later hired as a full-time bus driver, a position he served in through the end of the 2021-22 school year.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed six victims have come forward in the investigation. WCSO encourages anyone with information regarding this case or anyone who may be a victim of White to call 850-638-6111.
