VHS mourns loss of athletic director


A late night boating accident  leaves Vernon High School  mourning the loss of their athletic director Trey Pike. 

According to Fish and Wildlife Conservation, Pike was in a boating accident on August 6 between 11 and 11: 30 p.m. in North Bay. Pike is confirmed dead and an investigation is underway. 

According to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) the only person involved in the accident was Pike.

Officials with the Coast Guard said an off-duty Panama City Fire boat was in the water when they found Pike’s 21-foot center console boat still running. The boat had run into a cement power line tower in North Bay.

Panama City Fire, the FWC and USCG were all on scene with FWC recovering Pike’s body.
