High school band members may blend into the background at Friday night football games but they aren’t overlooked by everyone.

Their hard work paid off Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Florida Bandmasters District II Marching Band Music Performance Assessment at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City.

All bands are judged on three major factors: music performance, marching and maneuvering, and general effect.

Chipley High School’s “Spirit of the Tiger†band played “99 Red Balloons,†“You Dropped a Bomb on Me,†and “Shut Up & Dance,†with a superior overall rating.

Vernon High School’s “Pride of Vernon†played a medley from Grease, “Greased Lightning,†“Summer Nights,†“Born to Hand Jive,†and “Beauty School Dropout†with an superior overall rating.

Holmes County High School’s “Blue Pride†band played Elton John songs “I’m Still Standing,†“Crocodile Rock,†“Your Song,†and “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting†with an overall rating of excellent.
