On the last Friday of every month, food trucks and vendors are invited to come out to Café Au L.A. in Vernon to serve up food and enjoy a good time with neighbors.

The event is called Food Truck Friday and has been organized with the help of Bridgette Smith and her son Cord Jones, who run the local business Jonesing 4 Cookies. The two partnered with Cafe Au L.A. and a new Vernon event was born.

Jones said Food Truck Friday has been happening since the fall of 2023.

“It just started as something to bring the community together since Vernon doesn’t have a lot of events,” he said.

Jones called the first event “awesome.” Food Truck Friday does not charge vendors or food trucks to come out.

The event also aims to give back to the community. Food Truck Friday was used to organize a food drive in November, with everyone who brought canned goods getting a free cookie. A choir was also on hand to sing.

“It was a really good vibe out there,” Jones said.

A similar supply drive was held in December.

Food Truck Friday can be a chance to see familiar faces and meet new people, Jones said.

“We literally just smile and look as people come in, look around, shop,” he said. “It’s being built by the community and we can’t wait for people to keep coming out.”

The next Food Truck Friday will be held Jan. 26 and starts at 5 p.m. Café Au L.A.’s address is 3027 Main Street. Check out the Jonesing 4 Cookies page on Facebook for more information.
