Chipley police officer placed on administrative leave after DUI arrest

Chipley Police Department (CPD) Officer Paul Thomas Demaree, 47, has been placed on administrative leave following a DUI arrest in Panama City on Thursday, Feb. 1.

The CPD was made aware of the arrest after Demaree was taken into custody by the Panama City Police Department, according to a news release.

“The department is committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability among its officers,” the CPD’s news release said.

An internal investigation is currently underway to “thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding Officer Demaree’s arrest.”

“The Chipley Police Department will conduct a fair and impartial inquiry to ensure transparency and uphold the trust of the community,” the news release said. “The Chipley Police Department extends its gratitude to the Panama City Police Department for their cooperation and assistance in obtaining information related to this incident.”
