Sheriff’s Office: Person fatally shot after altercation at Vernon fish camp

An individual was reportedly shot and killed after an altercation at Diamond Head Fish Camp in Vernon on Saturday, April 27.

The body was retrieved from the water by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Dive Team, a news release said.

A 911 call was made at 2:41 p.m. that day in which the caller said there was an altercation between her husband and another individual.

“Once deputies and investigators arrived on scene, all parties involved were still present. Investigators were informed that all three men had been on the lake fishing and consuming alcohol most of the day,” a news release said. “Once back at the dock, one party became aggressive and threated to kill one of the other individuals.”

The altercation became physical and reportedly resulted in the fatal shooting. 

An investigation is underway.

“The 14th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Medical Examiner’s Office is currently assisting in the investigation of this case,” the news release said. “At this time, no charges have been filed.”
