Hinson Crossroads Fire Department firefighter Steven Gaillard lost his home in a structure fire that occurred early Friday, May 17.
The fire occurred on Wilderness Road.
Hinson Fire Department Chief Lee Duke said Gaillard woke up smelling smoke and managed to get his family out. No one was killed or seriously harmed.
The fire seems to have begun in the kitchen area, Duke said. The structure is still standing but has been gutted, he said.
Fundraisers are being set up to help the firefighter and his loved ones, including by the Hinson Fire Department. The Wausau Fire Department will be holding a red plate fundraiser.
Donations can also be dropped off at Small World Daycare.
“We should show our support,” Duke said. “He gives so much of his volunteer time to help families in crisis.”
