Washington County Emergency Management recently recognized John Rhames, Animal Control Officer II, for completing the Level I Venomous Handling Certification Course, an intensive program combining classroom instruction with hands‑on training. The curriculum covers native venomous snake species, anatomy, ecology, toxinology, emergency snakebite response, and captive husbandry, along with specialized field techniques such as single‑hooking, double‑hooking, safe bagging, and secure containment.
Rhames is the first Animal Control Officer in Washington County to earn this certification, marking a significant milestone for both the Animal Control Division and the community it serves. Officials said his dedication and expanded technical skills strengthen the county’s ability to safely respond to incidents involving venomous reptiles.
Washington County Emergency Management congratulated Rhames on the achievement and commended his commitment to public safety and professional development.
