Washington County man charged with attempted murder
A Washington County man is behind bars following a shooting that took place Monday morning.
Washington County Sheriffs Office responded around 7:20 a.m. to a Moss Hill residence, where a man stated he had accidentally shot his wife.
Upon arrival on scene, deputies and Washington County EMS discovered 61-year-old Judy Ann Berrigan, with a gunshot wound to the left chest area. Berrigan was immediately transported to a local hospital where she is expected to recover from the gunshot wound.
Berrigan was able to speak with WCSO investigators, telling them that she and her husband, 70-year-old Dennis Alan Berrigan, had been arguing.
Mrs. Berrigan stated her husband had been drinking most of the previous night and shot her with a handgun while she was sitting in the living room.
Dennis Berrigan was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
WCSO states investigators are still on scene, and that the investigation is ongoing.
