Woman arrested on felony warrant facing contraband charge


A Washington County woman who was arrested on a felony warrant out of Colorado is now facing additional charges for the introduction of contraband into the Washington County Jail.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday, Nov. 22, deputies witnessed two subjects with flashlights walking around the perimeter of an abandoned residence on Hard Labor Road. Deputies made contact with the subjects, and identifying one as 63-year-old Sheila Anita Bourkard of Vernon.

Bourkard told deputies she was at the residence in an attempt to retrieve items she left when she lived there. An information check revealed Bourkard to have an active felony warrant out of Colorado for contempt of court on drug charges. Bourkard was taken into custody on the warrant, at which time deputies asked Bourkard if she was in possession of any illegal items. Bourkard admitted to deputies she had Xanax in her pocket but denied being in possession of any other illegal items. 

Boukard was transported to the Washington County Jail. During intake, detention deputies found her to be in possession of two small glass vials, methamphetamine, and marijuana.

Bourkard was additionally charged with introduction of contraband into a detention facility, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
