WCSO warns of text message scam

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a scam by way of text messaging.

 Scammers are attempting to defraud Washington County Sheriff’s Office followers by sending a text message to their cell phone with a link to purchase a WCSO T-shirt.

Sheriff Kevin Crews says he wants to get the word out before anyone gets taken by the scammers.

“It appears this scam is circulating around the state, involving several law enforcement agencies,” said Crews. “Before they can defraud any of our residents, we want to get the word out.”

If you receive a text message stating, Washington County Sheriff’s Office shirt $10 off ready to order now and a link, delete the message immediately.
