Two to vie for Vernon mayoral seat

Next month’s municipal election in Vernon will see only one contested race.

Qualifying ended Friday, Feb. 4, with newcomer Marlene Hintz and former Vernon council member Gary Owens each qualifying for the mayoral seat which was left vacant with the November 2021 resignation from the position by Candice Hodges.

Mary Porteus was the sole candidate to qualify to fill the seat left vacant by Laura Brewer, who passed away in January after a battle with cancer.

Incumbent Joey Brock will retain his seat on the council after also qualifying with no opposition.

The election will take place beginning at 8 a.m. at Vernon City Hall Tuesday, March 8.
