Chipley teen sentenced in brother’s death

A Chipley teen was sentenced on Monday in the shooting death of his brother in 2021.

15-year-old Mathew Pierce was sentenced to 15 years confinement to be followed by 15 years of probation by Chief Circuit Judge Christopher Patterson in a Washington County courtroom.

Sentencing for the second-degree murder charge came one year to-the-day after Pierce shot and killed his 15-year-old brother Andrew. On June 27,2021, the Pierce brothers got into an altercation which escalated to Mathew retrieving a gun and shooting his brother.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County EMS responded to the Lawrence Road residence and transported Andrew to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Pierce will be 30-years-old when he is set to be released from the Florida Department of Corrections.
