Bay Area Choral to perform ‘It’s Christmas’ this weekend

The Bay Area Choral Society will perform “It’s Christmas” concert this weekend, on Friday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe and on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola.

The society will perform 10 pieces in this concert with a mix to engage all ages. Director Dana Langford has chosen two pieces by John Rutter. The women will sing “What Sweeter Music” and Neldys Crespo will be featured in “Ensurientes” from Rutter’s Magnificat.

The concert will end with fun and upbeat tunes including The Drifters’ rendition of “White Christmas,” made most popular in the movie “Home Alone,” and Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas.” Both will feature appropriate male solos guaranteed to keep the audience entertained.

Dr. Ian Henning will accompany on piano with Florida State University instrumentalists on flute, French horn and percussion. Instrumental arrangements are by flutist Kyle W. Brown, who is pursuing a doctor of music degree at FSU.

Since 1989, Bay Area Choral Society has been committed to providing choral musical excellence. Experienced vocalists from Franklin County across the Florida Panhandle to Bay County meet weekly to rehearse for the December and the Spring concerts. Many of the vocalists have been seen in the choirs of local churches.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance online at Eventbrite.com or at the First United Methodist Church Ministry Center, 510 East Fourth Street, in Port St. Joe during business hours Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling 850-247-2164.
