Organizers say everyone working behind the scenes volunteer many hours to make this pageant better every year. Each contestant must collect sponsorships to participate in the pageant. Top sponsorship earner this year was Ainsley Marsh, collecting more than $1,000.
All proceeds collected are placed into a fund and offered as scholarships in amounts up to $4,000, given each year to Washington County seniors.
Pageant director Cindy Johnson Brown, who was also Funday Tiny Queen in 1981, says the scholarship fund is in its 30th year, and she hopes it will offer more scholarships in the years to come. “I’m just continuing the tradition,” says Brown.
Kings and queens can be seen at the Funday events this Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5.
