The City of Chipley municipal election was held Tuesday, August 1 with Ward 3 Tracy Andrews running unopposed and John “Tommy†Sasser and Cheryl Gainer McCall vying for Ward 2.

Incumbent John “Tommy†Sasser has held the seat since 2014 but lost it by 29 votes in this election.

Cheryl Gainer McCall previously served on the council from 2007 to 2011 and says she is excited to serve her community once again.

The self-described “Harley-ridin’ Dachshund mama†says she isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions.

“I ran on the platform of asking the hard questions,†said McCall. “I plan to do just that. Keep watch; there are changes coming to the city.â€

“The people made their voices heard; they want change,†she added. “People aren’t happy with city hall being unfriendly. They aren’t happy with the Chipley Police Department not having enough patrolmen on a shift. The condition of our streets is also a big issue that people are unhappy with, especially with our city having one of the highest tax rates.â€

McCall says she is thankful to those who voted.

“I just want to thank all of the people who came out in 97 degree weather to vote,†said McCall. “I will do my best to help bring about much needed change to our city.â€
