National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week recognizes public safety professionals

April 14-20 will be a time to recognize law enforcement and public safety dispatchers.

The National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is observed annually in April. The Week came from Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, according to the event’s website.

“This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public,” the event website said. “It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.”

Sheriff Kevin Crews supports the sentiment behind NPSTW.

“We couldn’t do what we do without our dispatchers,” Crews said. “They are our first line of defense in good and evil.”
