Washington County seeking volunteer for Value Adjustment Board

Washington County Florida seal with nature scene.

The Washington County Board of County Commissioners (WCBOCC) is inviting local citizens to apply for an open seat on the County’s Value Adjustment Board (VAB). The VAB is a quasi‑judicial body that hears appeals from property owners regarding property tax assessments and exemption denials. This is an unpaid volunteer position appointed by the WCBOCC.

This seat is reserved for a citizen who owns homestead property within Washington County. Under Florida Statute 194.015, applicants may not be a member or employee of any taxing authority and may not represent property owners in any administrative or judicial review of property taxes. Additionally, per Florida Administrative Code Rule 12D‑9.004, citizen members must be appointed in a manner that avoids conflicts of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest.

The deadline to apply is September 4, by 4 p.m. Applications may be submitted to Wendy White via email at wwhite@washingtonfl.com or in person. Applications are available at the Administration Office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The WCBOCC is encouraging interested citizens to apply promptly, as applications must be received by the deadline.

For questions or to request an application, contact Wendy White at the Washington County Board of County Commissioners at wwhite@washingtonfl.com.
