The Washington County Sheriff’s Office 911 telecommunications center is reporting an overwhelming number of calls regarding the heavy presence of smoke and ash in the south/southeastern parts of Washington County. The smoke and ash from the current wildfire in Bay County is blowing north towards Washington County. Currently there are no wildfires in Washington County, and there is no threat from the Bay County fire at this time. Expect a continuing heavy presence of smoke and ash throughout the next few days as crews work to control the wildfire in Bay County. Earlier today, the Washington County Board of County Commissioners has implemented a burn ban effectively immediately. The ban will be in effect until the Florida Forest Service determines weather conditions are favorable for outdoor burning.
