The Chipley Police Department (CPD) has announced that six people have been arrested following an investigation into a shots‑fired incident that occurred on June 2. Officers responded after receiving multiple calls reporting shots fired throughout the city. Although an initial search by officers yielded no evidence of a shooting, further analysis the next day revealed the shooting was connected to a narcotics transaction near Gilmore Park.
According to the department, investigators used audio triangulation and city camera footage to determine that two vehicles met in the area for a drug sale. Police say the sellers, who had traveled from Alabama, were unaware the buyers intended to rob them. After the sellers arrived and parked, the buyers arrived in a second vehicle and blocked them in. Upon one of the buyers exiting the vehicle and approaching the sellers’ car, two individuals ran up on foot with firearms. The buyers fled and made away with the narcotics, but not before one of the occupants in the sellers’ vehicle opened fire with a rifle.
Investigators were able to identify one of the vehicles involved by scrolling through hours of camera footage collected throughout the city. They traced the subjects’ arrival into the city, their path of travel to the scene, and their path of travel after the incident as they left the city. This process also allowed investigators to identify the second vehicle, which sustained damage from gunfire, and eventually identify six of the seven individuals involved.
Through extensive interviews and evidence collection, the following individuals have been charged and arrested in connection with this incident as of Sunday, July 26:
- Samuel Baxley – Robbery with firearm
- Quincy Brundidge – Criminal attempt to solicit/conspire (third‑degree felony); marijuana sale
- Landon Hall – Robbery with firearm
- Khmari Massaline – Robbery with firearm
- Marlie Medley – Criminal attempt to solicit/conspire (third‑degree felony); marijuana sale
- Omzavious Peacock – Firing a weapon in public
A seventh individual has been identified as a person of interest, and investigators are continuing to follow up on leads. The department noted that only one of the charged individuals resides within Chipley city limits; the others traveled from Geneva, Alabama.
The department praised the Investigations Division for its many hours of work dedicated to identifying the vehicles and subjects involved and for ultimately gathering enough evidence to charge the suspects. It also expressed gratitude to the community for its vigilance and cooperation in reporting suspicious activity.
The department issued the following statement to those considering criminal activity in Chipley:
“We are watching, and we will pursue every investigative lead until justice is served.”
