Plans to construct a second splash pad at the Possum Palace in Wausau have been scrapped.
Wausau Town Council voted to change the scope of work on the Town’s Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant when they met in regular session April 21, stating the need for new playground equipment at the facility is more of a priority.
Town Clerk Margaret Riley added that the Department of Environmental Protection had concerns about the current splash pad’s runoff.
“We have so much wastewater run-off from the original splash pad that we need to do something different,” said Riley. “Plus, we are too small to really have a need for two splash pads. Our playground equipment is starting to fall into disrepair. Wouldn’t it be better to replace that instead?”
The council agreed with those opinions and voted to make the change.
In other items, council voted to set a price for renting the Rogers Square facility on Highway 77. The former home of Buster Rogers was donated to the town earlier this year by the Rogers family. Wausau residents will pay $53.50 for each day of rental, and those who live outside the town limits will pay $75 plus tax for the day.
Wausau Town Council will meet again in workshop at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 5.
