Vernon awarded two grants

VERNON – Vernon City Council received word on being approved for two grants when the board met in regular session Monday, July 19.

The first grant is a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for $650,000. This grant will be used to pave the south end of Church Street and two rehab city wells located on Main Street. The council states should there be any funds left after the paving and well rehab projects, the city will look at refurbishing the town’s lift station.

The second grant is a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) for $50,000. The Sportsplex bathrooms are at the top of the list for where the funding will be spent.

The Council plans a full remodel of the bathrooms. The sidewalks in the Sportsplex are also slated for an upgrade in an effort to bring them into ADA compliance.

Vernon City Council will meet again in workshop at 5:30 p.m., Monday, August 2.
