WAUSAU – The Wausau Fire Department is one step closer to completion nearly four years after receiving funding, only a few details remain to be move-in ready.
The project began in 2018 after the department received $985,500 in state allocated funds to build a new facility. Friday, August 6, the final flooring is being finished which includes epoxy covered bay flooring and laminate plank flooring in the office areas.
All that remains is approval of a USDA Urban Grant totaling $153,000 to purchase furniture, kitchen appliances, an industrial washer and dryer, equipment racks, office supplies, smart touch boards, and a generator. Approval is expected by the end of August.
Assistant Chief Adam Smith says it has been a long road, but the destination isn’t far away.
“We are excited to be on the last leg of this journey,” said Smith. “We are excited to finally be in our new home.”
WFD is hopeful the final move in will be by the middle of fall.
