The Washington County Board of County Commissioners moved ahead with advertising for the amended boat ramp ordinance when they met in regular session Aug. 18.
The amended ordinance spells out changes of use for both Cotton and Culpepper Landings. Cotton Landing would be for non-motorized vessels, but commercial use would be allowed. Culpepper Landing would allow motorized vessels, but commercial use would be prohibited.
Commissioners discussed trying to find a way for commercial businesses to utilize Culpepper Landing but could not come up with anything concrete.
“By spring, we are hopeful to have an ordinance that will make a way to better our landings,” said Chairman Tray Hawkins.
The measure to advertise the ordinance was unanimously approved.
In other business, the Washington County Planning Commission seat that was recently vacated by Mark Odom will be filled by the newly appointed Cindy Birge who was appointed by Commissioner Todd Abbott.
Additional funding for Culpepper Landing was approved to be pulled from the carry over funds from 2021-2022 fiscal year. A total of $24,623 of Florida Boater Improvement Program funds will be used to make additional improvements to the landing.
A Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant was approved to go toward a splash pad at Hunter Park. The total is $200,000 to complete the project.
The Clerk of Court was approved to pay vouchers for the month of July totaling $4,301,153.43.
The Washington County Board of County Commissioners will meet again in regular session at 9 a.m. Sept. 22.
