The Florida Elections Canvassing Commission on Thursday certified the results of the Aug. 18 primary elections, setting the stage for the November general election.
The commission, made up of Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General James Uthmeier and Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, met briefly by phone to certify the results. The midterm general election will be held Nov. 2.
In statewide primary contests, U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds defeated 10 other GOP hopefuls for the Republican nomination for governor, while former U.S. Rep. David Jolly bested five other Democrats to win his party’s nomination.
Simpson defeated GOP challenger Matt Taylor in his reelection bid and will face Joey Mendoza Atkins in the general election for agriculture commissioner. Atkins defeated Don Prichard in the Democratic primary.
For the chief financial officer Cabinet position, incumbent Blaise Ingoglia defeated Republican challenger Frank Collige. In the general election, he’ll face former state Sen. Annette Taddeo, who defeated Earle Ford in the Democratic primary.
Uthmeier didn’t face a primary challenge and will vie with Democrat Jose Javier Rodriguez, who also didn’t have a primary, in the general election.
