During the regular Chipley City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 8, the Chipley City Council proclaimed September 17–23, as Constitution Week, recognizing the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution and the importance of preserving the freedoms and principles it represents.
Representatives from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Chipola Chapter, including Regent Doris Spears and Vice Regent Carolyn Jordan, accepted the proclamation during the meeting. They emphasized the importance of educating residents, particularly the youth in the community, about the Constitution and its role in American life.
“We’re just happy that y’all were able to recognize the Constitution Week, because it is so important, especially at this anniversary of the founding of our country and making sure that our citizens, our children especially, know what the Constitution is, what it means, and how it is important to their lives,” Jordan told the council, emphasizing the importance of keeping American history alive.
The council also approved several upcoming community events, including Chipley High School’s Annual Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 23 at 12:30 p.m., Christmas Fest of Chipley, later this year in December, and the Annual Trunk or Treat, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Jim Trawick Park on Rustin Drive.
Organizer for the Trunk or Treat event, Sherri Biddle, reminded potential Trunk or Treat vendors that applications are required before participating. This process helps maintain an accurate list of participants and supports safety efforts for children attending the event.
The proclamation and upcoming events highlight the city’s continued support for civic awareness, community traditions, and family friendly activities.
