CHIPLEY – The Scottish Festival and Highland Games and Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the First Presbyterian Church of Chipley.
Event organizer Monica Rehberg says the event is a celebration of Scottish heritage.
“The purpose of the Scottish festival is simple,” said Rehberg. “It’s to provide education to both the young and old on our Scottish heritage and how it has influenced our lives, to invite the public onto our beautiful church grounds and let everyone know they are always welcome at Chipley’s First Presbyterian Church, and to provide outreach to our community both locally and abroad. This year, our festival and games, as you can imagine, required a lot of hard work and dedication on behalf of many volunteers. Without their help and support and that of our sponsors, none of it would have been possible.”
Highland game demonstrations will continue throughout the day, with opening ceremonies being presented at noon to include the color guard and march of the clans. There will also be a presentation by area bagpipe performers, Emerald Coast Pipes and Drums.
Festival goers can expect music, food, and vendors, as well as entertainment from the traditional Highland games.
The City of Chipley will be close the following roads from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for the event: Church Avenue from 4th Street to 5th Street; 4th Street from Church Avenue to Watts Avenue; Watts Avenue from 4th Street to 5th Street and 5th Street from Watts Avenue to Church Avenue.
First Presbyterian Church of Chipley is located at 658 5th Street.
