Chipley High School student Asher Holt was recognized as the Washington County School District 2023-24 Sunshine State Scholar during a Washington County School Board meeting on Monday, Jan. 8.
Holt celebrated the occasion with his family and District officials.
“Part of the requirements are that they are a junior, that they have expressed some interest in going into a STEM career,” District Director of Curriculum & Instruction Susan Saunders said. “They have to have a GPA of 3.9 or higher. I assure you Asher’s is higher than that.”
The Sunshine State Scholar program has been going for several years, she said.
“He will travel, along with his parents, to Orlando in May for a two-day event where the commissioner of education and different colleges and universities will be there and they will have an opportunity to network with other students across the state and get information about applying for financial aid, applying for colleges and the application process,” Saunders said.
