CHIPLEY – A Campbellton man has been arrested after multiple tips led the Chipley Police Department to narcotics being stored in a vehicle parked on City of Chipley property.
Officers and a K-9 unit responded Wednesday, June 23, to Public Works property and conducted a K-9 sniff of a row of cars on the property.
Following an alert for the odor of narcotics, officers contacted the vehicle owner, identified as 22-year-old Johnaterris Smith, a third-party contractor employee.
Officers explained the situation to Smith and conducted a probable cause search of his vehicle where they located a loaded handgun and observed “the presence of marijuana,” according to law enforcement reports.
A records search showed that Smith is a convicted felon and currently on State Probation for weapons and drug charges. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was booked on charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
