A legacy lives on: Chipley Garden Club refreshes butterfly garden

Members of the Chipley Garden Club recently spent the day at Falling Waters State Park sprucing up the Joyce Carter Memorial Butterfly Garden area.
The garden was originally built more than 25 years ago while Carter was the club’s president and was named in her honor when she passed away. Since then, care of the garden has changed hands from Josephine McGlamery until her passing in 2019 to McGlamery’s daughter, Ri McGlamery.
Ri passed in November, and the Chipley Garden Club wasted no time in stepping in to fill her shoes. Volunteers gathered and weeded out the grounds and placed pine straw while learning about the various flora that occupy the garden.
Chipley Garden Club member Cheryl McCall says the spring will see the garden come to life.
“When spring rolls in, the wildflowers will be back,†McCall said. “If they do not, we will plant more. We will continue to keep the garden up in Ri’s honor.â€
