Car burglaries suspects in custody

Three suspects are in custody after an investigation into a rash of car burglaries by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Following reports of vehicle burglaries on June 2, WCSO began an investigation. Suspects were developed through that process. The suspects were caught on home surveillance cameras from the victim’s homes.

With assistance from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects were quickly found at a hotel in Holmes County. Items linked to the burglaries were found in the hotel room, as well.

A vehicle that was stolen by the suspects from a residence on Corbin Road was used to travel out of state with the whereabouts of the vehicle being unknown at this time.

Sheriff Kevin Crews says the patrol deputies and investigators astute skills aided in the arrest of :

Seth Scott Chambers, 20, of Chipley, is charged with grand theft of a vehicle, grand theft of a firearm, four counts larceny of credit card, six counts of burglary, burglary of a conveyance armed, two counts of larceny petit theft first degree and unlawful possession of victims’ credit cards.

Joshua Jay Watford, 18, of Chipley, is charged with grand theft of a vehicle, four counts burglary, two counts larceny of credit card, two counts of larceny petit theft first degree and grand theft of a firearm.

Hazel May Weathers, 20, of Chipley, is charged with grand theft of a firearm, four counts accessory after the fact third degree felony, four counts accessory before the fact, three counts of burglary, two counts larceny petit theft first degree, unlawful possession of victims’ credit cards and larceny of credit cards.

Additional charges are pending after further investigation.

Sheriff Crews urges the public to continue to be vigilant in protecting their personal property.

Crews has some tips to avoid being a victim:

  • Close your windows & lock your doors (the simplest and easiest prevention technique).
  • Remove valuables or place them in the trunk of your automobile.
  • Park in well-lit areas when possible.
  • Park where your car will be easily & frequently viewed (natural surveillance).
  • Park in your garage if you have one.
