The City of Vernon has continued to move forward on a project intended to improve the area’s sewer and sprayfield facilities. During a City Council meeting Monday, June 2, two bids received in response to a request for qualifications (RFQ) were opened.

The firms that submitted bids were VBA Design from Panama City and Municipal Engineering from Navarre.

Each member of the City Council is tasked with reviewing the RFQs. The submissions will be scored and a decision will be made at the next council meeting, scheduled for June 17 at 5:30 p.m.

The grant, valued at approximately $2.2 million, is the largest Vernon has received to date. It is earmarked for the hardening of the city’s sewer and sprayfield facilities.

Currently, no funds have been released and so no physical work has commenced. The bid process marks the initial step toward securing an engineering and administration team.

In addition to the grant discussions, the City Council addressed several other potential projects during the workshop. These included a possible grant to codify the City’s ordinances, the need for a noise ordinance among other regulatory measures, and the completion of a new driveway at the Vernon Sportsplex.
