Chipley man behind bars on multiple charges after traffic stop


A Chipley man is in custody on multiple felony charges after fleeing from a traffic stop on March 7.

An officer with the Chipley Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a four-door sedan at the intersection of Pecan and Church Streets and obtained consent from the driver to conduct a search of the vehicle. The officer requested the backseat passenger, identified as Kyree Burns, 29, of Chipley, to exit the vehicle.

As Burns exited the vehicle a physical altercation between the officer and Burns began immediately. During the altercation, Burns slipped away from the officer and fled the scene, leaving a .380 caliber firearm according to a CPD press release.

       Burns was later located in the area of Pecan Street with the assistance of Washington

       County Sheriff’s Office and the Holmes Correctional Institution K-9 team. Burns

       surrendered himself without incident or further altercation. 

 

Burns is charged with resisting arrest with violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, battery on a LEO and carrying a concealed weapon.
