VERNON – Vernon City Council approved advertisement for two temporary positions with the street department when they met in special session Thursday, May 13.
The positions, one part-time and one full-time, will be advertised at a rate of $12 an hour and funded out of the street department budget. The
possibility of turning the positions into non-temporary positions will
be discussed at the end of the fiscal year as the new budget is being
set.
In other business, City Clerk Tracy Walker was tasked with gathering estimates on the demolition of the awning on the old band room due to pieces of concrete falling and causing a safety issue. Walker will also gather estimates for demolition of the old band building.
Council
members also slated the June workshop to discuss the employee handbook and
policies concerning employees cashing in vacation days. The Council states they realized this discussion was necessary after an employee
requested to cash in 72.25 hours of time accrued over the last year. This request, like other requests to cash in time over the years, was granted; however, council members say it may be time to consider placing a cap on the amount of time allowed to be cashed in at once.
Vernon City Council will meet again in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 17.
