A WCSO deputy conducted a traffic stop near Highway 77 and Joe Neel Road on October 7.Â
The vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Silverado with black racing stripes, is known to be owned and operated by 39-year-old Carlton Chance Harrell, according to a release from WCSO.
Deputies made contact with Harrell who had an outstanding warrant for VOP for larceny out of Alachua County and a previous Washington County case for possession of several illegal drug items. As Harrell excited the vehicle, a black magnetic box was observed in the driver’s side door in plain sight of the deputy.
After Harrell was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant, a WCSO K-9 was deployed.
The K-9 gave a positive alert to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle leading to a subsequent search of the truck. The search found two digital scales with methamphetamine residue, a controlled substance without a prescription inside the magnetic box, and a handgun inside the vehicle.
Harrell was placed on felony probation earlier this year on drug charges and is now facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
