People driving in Vernon now have a new option if they need to fill up on gas and stop for snacks.
Maddie’s at 3600 Moss Hill Road celebrated a grand opening and ribbon cutting on March 7. Along with the usual gas, drinks, and convenience food, Maddie’s also has a deli.
The store is owned by Don Everett, who has roots in Washington County.
“My dad, Don Everett Sr., was born and raised here in Chipley, along with my eight other brothers and sisters,” he said. “He started working in Chipley at Piggly Wiggly. He left for Tallahassee.”
Maddie’s is named for Everett’s youngest daughter, Maddie.
“We’re proud of this location,” Everett said. “We saw the potential here.”
Members of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon cutting. Chamber Executive Director Michael Maxwell gave Everett a plaque of recognition.
Parent company Ware Oil & Supply gave the Vernon High School Softball Team a $250 donation, which Team members were on hand to personally receive.
The grand opening also featured music by 30A Oyster and hot dogs cooked by deli manager Lori Strength.
