Florida’s back‑to‑school sales tax holiday in effect until August 20

Florida’s annual Back‑to‑School Sales Tax Holiday is currently in effect through Thursday, August 20, giving Washington and Holmes County shoppers a full month to save on classroom essentials.

In a package passed in June 2025, Florida’s tax‑free holiday was expanded to last an entire month instead of just one weekend, offering families more time to prepare for the new school year.

Tax‑exempt items include:

  • Clothing, footwear, wallets, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs, and diaper bags priced at $100 or less per item
  • Common school supplies such as pens, pencils, notebooks, binders, folders, and lunch boxes priced at $50 or less per item
  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles priced at $30 or less
  • Personal computers and certain computer‑related accessories priced at $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use

Items not eligible for tax‑free savings include:

  • Clothing priced over $100 per item
  • School supplies priced over $50 per item
  • Computers or accessories priced over $1,500 or purchased for business use
  • Cell phones, video game consoles, and digital media receivers
  • Rentals, repairs, or alterations of eligible items
  • Sales made within theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, or airports
