The Arbor Day Foundation has partnered with the Florida Forest Service to ship a tree to the front door of interested Panhandle residents.
“This program is specific to the Hurricane Michael damage area and has already gotten a lot of attention,” said Washington County Senior Forester Michael Klassen.
Klassen added that the traditional annual Arbor Day tree give-away was cancelled this year due to COVID-19.
A similar Arbor Day grant through the Florida Forest Service was recently able to provide trees to the City of Vernon, Ponce De Leon High School, and also for vegetation around the new Wausau Fire Department.
Those interested in receiving a tree can reach out to Klassen by calling (850) 628-6750.
