VERNON – The Vernon City Council passed a resolution concerning the filling of swimming pools and the subsequent water bill that follows when they met in regular session June 21.
The new resolution states that residents will only have their water bill adjusted to reflect the number of gallons the pool holds. This decision comes on the heels of the councilÂ’s last meeting when a resident asked for an adjustment and was denied due to a 2015 resolution prohibiting the change. The council has Attorney Michelle Jordan draw up a resolution to replace the old one. The new resolution passed unanimously.
The council opted to table the bid opening for demolition of the old band room after not yet receiving word on if that building was a part of the new historical site designation, in which case it cannot be torn down. The council also tabled the opening in order to protect the bidders from being underbid once their costs are made public.
A special meeting of the council was called for June 28 at 5:30 p.m. to further discuss pay raises for each of the cityÂ’s employees. This decision was made in order for the council to review pay scale numbers provided by the City Clerk.
The Vernon City Council will meet again in regular session at 5:30 p.m., Monday, July 6.
