A backroad off State Highway 77 in Washington County that links to Deading Road will get paved through a $2.5 million grant.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners heard a presentation from Grants Coordinator Samantha Arroyo about a $2.5 million grant from the Florida Department of Transportation for the project during a public workshop on Monday, Sept. 18.

The county requested funds for the project.

“We asked for it, so it should be a pretty slam dunk agreement,†Commission Chair Tray Hawkins said.

Under the terms of the agreement, Washington County must complete the project by October 24, 2024.

A local funding initiative request with the Florida Senate said Dumajack Road is “comprised of sections of milled asphalt, dirt road, and pavement.â€

“The road has experienced based failure and there are several sections of dilapidated pavement,†the request said. “The best course of action would be to reconstruct and widen the road to meet current AASHTO or FDOT Greenbook requirements.â€

The board did not vote on the matter Monday since the meeting was a workshop. A task order for the project will be on the consent calendar for the board’s next meeting on Thursday, Sept. 21.
