A few months after being sworn in, Downtown Chipley community fixture Kristin Martin has resigned from her seat on the City Council.

Martin resigned from the Ward 4 seat via a letter effective Dec. 30, which was read during a Jan. 9 meeting. Martin is the vice president of beauty spa Sage Brand Studio.

“This letter, nor this decision, came easy and has not been taken lightly. In a very short amount of time, I had the pleasure to serve and meet many great citizens of our community and have received a wealth of knowledge regarding the workings of our beautiful town,” Martin said. “It has been an honor to serve alongside each of you. Unfortunately, at this time, it is in the best interest of my family and myself to step down as we begin a new year.”

Martin was sworn in on Oct. 10 of last year, filling a vacancy left by former Councilmember Wesley Adams–who also resigned after determining doing so was in the best interest for him and his family.

Mayor Tracy Andrews will submit a recommendation on someone else to appoint for the vacant seat, which the City Council can either approve or disapprove.

“Moving forward, I wish you all the best as you continue to work diligently in caring for our wonderful community, confident you will meet all the goals you have set in place. I will be praying for each of you daily,” Martin said. “Serving in a small town is by far NO small job. As we work towards our personal and business goals for 2024, I am certain that our paths will cross and I look forward to having the ability to continue to serve my community in other capacities.”
