Several county projects were top discussion items when the Washington County Board of County Commissioners met in regular session Thursday, May 19.
County FEMA Coordinator Kevan Parker advised commissioners that C.W. Roberts is set to begin paving Duncan Community Road to Highway 77 in June. The project will include several roads in between those points, including Buddy Road and Peel Road. The project will be paid for through FEMA allocations from Hurricane Michael funds. So far, FEMA has award $42 million for Hurricane Michael projects in Washington County.
Parker also updated the board on other projects, including culvert replacement on Worley Road, which is ready to go out for bid and repairs to the bridge on Williams Road, for which the county has sent out a request for proposals.
County Engineer Cliff Knauer updated commissioners on resurfacing efforts on South Boulevard, stating the county is waiting for approval from Florida Department of Transportation to put the project out for bid. The project will see the road resurfaced from Highway 277 to the traffic signal at Brickyard Road.
In other items, members of the Washington County 4-H Sure Shots and Livestock clubs were recognized for their achievements in the respective areas over the last year. Chairman Tray Hawkins stated the kids “make the county look great.”
“When these kids go to these competitions, they represent Washington County very well,” he said. “Let me just say, the future of Washington County is bright with these kids as our future leaders.”
Finally, commissioners approved the clerk of court to pay vouchers totaling $3, 839,772.58 for the month of April.
Washington County Board of County Commissioners will meet again in regular session at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 16.
