Washington County sets tentative millage rate

WASHINGTON COUNTY – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners set the tentative TRIM and millage rates for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

The tentative rate proposes to remain unchanged from last year’s rate of 8.5 mils.

The receipt of the American Rescue Plan Act funding left the county with two options: Raise the millage rate or maintain the current rate for two fiscal years.

This requirement made it easy for commissioners to choose the latter option according to Commissioner Todd Abbott.

“We are allowed to raise the millage rate but not lower it,” said Abbott. “The only option we will take is the one that doesn’t raise taxes for our citizens.”

Washington County Board of County Commissioners have set the tentative TRIM and millage rate hearing for 5:05 p.m. on Thursday, September 16.
